The 125 KTM Duke is preparing for entering the Indian market. The
125cc KTM Duke has all the ingredients one would not expect in a 125cc
bike in India, or for that matter even from a 150cc.
The KTM Duke 125 has a 125cc liquid cooled , DOHC engine also having
fuel injection and four valves. The power and torque figures can put
150cc bike in India to shame, except for maybe the Yamaha YZF R15.
 KTM's 125 Duke is a 125cc that doesn't belong there
The bike produces 15bhp@10500 rpm and 1.22kgm of torque at
8000rpm.The Duke 125 will have a 6 speed gear box. The braking duties
will be done are bu the Brembo brakes from Bybre, India. The front brake
has a 280mm disc whereas the rear has a 230mm disc. The front
suspension has inverted forks with a mono shock at the rear.
The KTM125 Duke has a restricted top speed of 100kph for Europe
The tires are also very wide, the front tire is a 110/70-17, while
the rear is 150/60-17. These are fat tires for a bike that tips the
scale at 118kg (dry weight).
Another interesting fact about the bike is that the top speed has
been restricted to 100 kmph as the target customers for the KTM Duke 125
are the European teenagers.
It would be interesting to see if this restriction will be in place
when launched in the Indian market as the set of customers is totally
different compared to the rest of the world. The bike, in its raw form
should cross 120kmph easily. One can understand this by simply looking
at the the technical specifications.
The KTM125 Duke will be manufactured at Bajaj's Chakan plant
The KTM Duke 125 will be locally manufactured at Bajaj’s plant in
Pune. Expect every bit of this bike to be of the highest standards with
no compromise in the quality. Bajaj should price the KTM 125 Duke at one
lakh rupees. For that much money, this bike is bang for the buck.
We expect this bike to make it to India around May 2011. Bajaj will
be launching this bike in the European and other overseas market first
before bringing it to India.
